Drew Arnum, Warranty Week Editor

You can say when it comes to warranty, Drew grew up in the warranty industry watching her father, Eric Arnum. When her father founded Warranty Week, in November of 2002, she was still in grade school. Drew spent pieces of her childhood observing her dad working from home with Excel spreadsheets and PowerPoint graphs all the while advocating to her dad for the color pink to be involved.

Before she knew it, her first graphic design job was working with Warranty Week editing graphics and captioning images of top industry leaders that she would later meet at conferences.

Drew referred to her dad (pictured right) as her “guide into the world of warranty” and credits him for the inspiration she has to continuously follow her passion for writing.

As Editor of Warranty Week, Drew says, “I think Warranty Week is really unique in the industry because we aren’t trying to sell a warranty product. We are focused on reporting and educating our industry about warranty expenses, warranty stories, and interesting news in a variety of industries.”

Warranty Week is an informative publication that produces a newsletter weekly, covering stories, news and analytical insights related to warranties from every industry. The publication works diligently researching and compiling years’ worth of public data to report back to warranty industry associates, leaders and influencers for reflection and insight.

We asked Drew as an influencer writing for Warranty Week, how exactly she stays up-to-date with trends and developments within the industry. Drew shared, “We use Google News results and search for new sources around the Internet to compile all of the latest warranty related headlines.” These headline news pieces are then placed into the Headlines tab on Warranty Week’s website and sent out with the newsletter weekly.

What’s also interesting is the work Drew is doing behind the scenes… “Sometimes there are pieces of news that nobody’s reported on… There are times where I have stumbled upon something that’s actually a breaking story and I put it in the newsletter… I can usually find information in the company’s annual reports, in a footnote in the appendix.”

Drew has passion and patience when it comes to finding breaking stories. For instance, an EV battery recall that was not widely covered reported costs of about $2 billion. While you may have not seen a headline about it, Drew was determined to shed light on this important event, even if it’s buried it in the footnotes of a 300-page annual report.  If it is out there, Drew is going to find it!

When Drew attended the conference in Long Beach, CA back in April, she was pretty sure that Warranty Week was the only journalists present in the room. Drew spoke to being acknowledged as the “Warranty Week girl” and hearing comments like “I love to read Warranty Week, I read it every Friday morning.”

Drew started her role as editor of Warranty Week in January of this year. After taking on the role, she waited to announce her position until the release of the Women of Warranty article, a fitting time to reveal Eric was no longer writing these stories… “Emails, like ‘congratulations on your new role… I didn’t even realize that it was a different author.’ That was the biggest compliment to me. I was really trying to have a similar tone to what Eric was writing with, as the way he presents information makes it easier to understand.”

As a young woman with a wealth of knowledge, Drew spoke to the trends and developments she sees coming for the industry. For instance, service providers utilizing mobile phones to troubleshoot issues before sending a technician out to the home, and communication technology that keeps the customer informed on the status of their job. Drew emphasized her interest in electric vehicles, their product warranties specifically, which she sees as a game changer in the product warranty industry.

On a personal note, I have been a subscriber to Warranty Week since my early days at Maytag.  More times than I can count, I would find myself saying “go look in Warranty Week, you’re sure to find it there.”  On behalf of thousands of people in this rewarding and sometimes chaotic industry, we thank you!
